Which type of battery should be chosen for solar garden lights?

When choosing batteries for solar garden lights, the following types are mainly considered and decided according to specific needs and environmental conditions:

Lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4): recommended for most situations. This type of battery has a long life (about 8-10 years), high safety, good stability and high temperature performance, and is suitable for a variety of environments, including extreme temperatures. Although the initial cost is high, in the long run, it is a cost-effective choice due to its high number of cycles (1500-2000) and low maintenance costs.

Li-ion ternary battery: If used in colder regions, Li-ion ternary battery can be a suitable choice due to its better low-temperature resistance (-15℃-45℃) and higher energy density. The number of cycles is about 500-800 times, which is suitable for scenarios that require frequent charging and discharging, but attention should be paid to safety management and cost.

Avoid lead-acid batteries and gel batteries: although these two types of batteries are lower cost, they are gradually being phased out in solar garden light applications because of their large size, heavy weight, frequent maintenance, shorter lifespan (about 300-500 deep cycles, life span of 3-4 years), and they are not adapted to extreme temperatures.

Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries: While not a mainstream choice, they may be used in some small or specific-design garden lights due to their environmental friendliness and recyclability, but are not as efficient or capacious as lithium batteries.

Consider environmental factors: when choosing a battery, consider the climatic conditions of the installation location, such as cold northern regions may be more suitable for lithium ternary batteries, while warmer or areas with extreme temperature changes, lithium iron phosphate batteries are more stable and reliable.

In summary, lithium iron phosphate battery is the more ideal battery choice for solar garden lights due to its comprehensive advantages, unless specific environmental conditions require the use of other types. When making a choice, the supplier's reputation, after-sales service and overall system cost should also be considered.
